Ways to Express Feelings and Opinions in Spanish

Listen To Spanish Phrases Of Opinions And Feelings

One of the funnest things about learning Spanish is you get to express your opinions to people who wouldn't understand you if you didn't speak Spanish. Use the following expressions to say how you liked or didn't like an event or show, or something that happened. There's a phrase here for when you want to express some shade of doubt on a particular topic. Be able to say you're optimistic that something might, in fact, be true. Say that something depends upon something else happening. Say that you feel the same way. Ask someone to leave you alone, or let you be in peace. Be able to say never mind to someone.

Many of these are phrases you would only use with someone you know very well. You'll notice that all these phrases use familiar (tu) conjugation of the verbs.

¡Apurate!

Hurry up!
Use this with your closest friends when you don't have the time to wait.

mas o menos

more or less
Use this phrase everywhere we'd say 'more or less' in English.

depende

it depends
Just like in English, you can add to this phrase "what it depends on" -- use depende de... to tell someone exactly what it depends on.

un momento

just a minute
This is a handy response to use on the telephone when the caller asks to talk to someone. You can also turn it into "just a minute, please" like this: Un momento, por favor.

puede ser -- tal vez -- a lo mejor

maybe
There are three good ways to say the word maybe in Spanish. The best advice I have is to use the one(s) that the Spanish speakers you talk to use. But all 3 will be understood.

lo dudo

I doubt it
Sometimes you might have to express a little doubt about a certain subject, and this is exactly the way to do it.

¡no te preocupes!

Don't worry!
Learn this Spanish phrase when you want to reassure someone everything is OK.

¡dejame en paz!

Leave me alone!
Borders on rude with some folks but among the closest of friends it could be appropriate.

igualmente

likewise -- the same to you
This is a polite way to return good wishes to someone.

¡Decidate!

Decide! -- Make up your mind!
Forceful exclamation.

¡Vete!

Go away! -- Get out of here!
Again, like the phrase above, not for use in all situations...

¡Largate!

Go away!
Another phrase for use among close friends.

¡Olvidalo!

Never mind!
This can also be translated forget about it!
