Intermediate Spanish Memory Book - Vocabulary BuildingHow Does This Book Work? The key to the success of the Spanish Memory Book is a method called mnemonic devices. This is a memory help where new words are learned by associating them with 1 or more familiar words that you already know. This book teaches you new Spanish vocabulary by rhyming the new word with words or parts of words of an English phrase -- this reinforces the meaning of the new Spanish vocabulary word.An example will make this easier to understand. This is a paraphrased version of how they teach you the Spanish word vender (to sell). We watched Ben dare to do something... ...understanding what he would sell. Notice how the phrase Ben dare gives you the exact pronunciation of the vocabulary word vender. And having the word sell in the other part of the phrase gives you the definition of the word. A short memorable rhyme sticks in your mind and allows you to recall the new Spanish words. The book refers to the short rhymes as jingles. The jingles are all pretty much 2 lines long and have about 15 or 20 words each. You get a jingle for each vocabulary word. In each jingle you get 2 pieces of information about each Spanish word. It's pronunciation and its definition. The book authors themselves admit the silliness of most of the jingles, but that will probably make them even easier to remember. Misc Comments
